Slot Changes
- over before combat to travel. Combine constant Swiftness from and Prismatic Understanding to quickly get around.
- for camp-clearing and more damage/pressure.
- as a condition removal alternative.
- for boon/condition support and to combo with for .
- for even more stealth and group support.
- for its obvious benefits.
- because it's fun.
Specializations
Trait Variants
- Evasive Mirror has its benefits but can easily break stealth.
- Compounding Power for more damage, although it is not recommended. The Pledge is hugely important for condition removal and stealth.
- Master of Fragmentation and Malicious Sorcery are both OK, but Ineptitude is particularly strong with Blinding Dissipation.
- Chaotic Transference for more damage, although again it is not recommended. Chaotic Dampening makes you ridiculously hard to kill.

Sigil Variants
You should always have a Superior Sigil of Energy with each set specifically for Deceptive Evasion. Otherwise, solid choices include Superior Sigil of Bursting, Corruption and Doom.

Dire is the recommended equipment spread, but Rabid (or a mix) is a good alternative. Swap to full Rabid and gain a 30% critical hit chance but lose 6370 health.
Rabid's increased critical hit chance is useful for the Critical Infusion and Sharper Images traits, but you'll have a pretty low chance anyway. Also, Dire is especially nice since you can top-off your immense health pool with Regeneration and while stealthed.
Rune Variants
With Superior Rune of Perplexity, you can easily inflict over 20 stacks of Confusion, making it one of the best options. Other solid alternatives includeSuperior Rune of the Nightmare, Traveler and Undead. Other options may include Superior Rune of the Dolyak, Krait and Melandru.
Food and Consumables
- Rare Veggie Pizza (or equivalent). Other options include Bowl of Lemongrass Poultry and Bowl of Black Pepper Cactus Salad, but your survivability is superb anyway.
- Bountiful Tuning Crystal, Master Tuning Crystal or Toxic Focusing Crystal (preference).
Usage
One of the easiest Mesmer builds that allows you to remain stealthed for over 45 seconds (excluding Desperate Decoy and).
- Swap to before clearing any camp; it will allow you to easily clear fully upgraded camps and even camps reinforced with Mercenaries.
- Chaotic Dampening makes you practically invulnerable to direct damage while is in effect (instant Protection plus triggered Protection, Regeneration, and Swiftness with Blind and Cripple). Remember you can also combo into for another five seconds.
- In addition to their normal effects, all your Shatter skills inflict Blind, two stacks of Confusion and Torment. Constantly use them (wisely) for added pressure.
- You can easily "abuse" by casting and dodging to create as many Illusions as you'd like for added healing while stealthed. You can deal damage with your Illusions, cast and for added pressure, and even use without breaking stealth.
- Otherwise, be very careful when stealthing. Any direct damage from , , , or will break stealth. In addition, reflection damage from as triggered by , , and will also break stealth. It is much safer to use while you are already stealthed anyway.
- Lastly, take extra care around 50% health to not waste Desperate Decoy and apply Revealed.
Counters
- Heavy condition prevention/removal ( is particularly annoying); conditions are 90% of your damage.
- Heavy condition pressure (particularly your own - think ), yet your removal with a Superior Sigil of Cleansing on each swap is quite good.
- Pussying out. While you are a master at hiding and running away, other players can do it back, though your Confusion and Torment can make it difficult. You have literally no way to stun.
