What to sell for gold in Guild Wars 2
In Guild Wars 2,
many items can be sold for profit on the Trading Post. The most common and reliable methods involve selling crafting materials, gear, and items obtained from daily activities and farming routes.
Crafting materials
Raw materials: Items like wood, ore, leather, and cloth are always in demand for crafting and upgrading. You can sell them directly on the Trading Post.
Time-gated refined materials: These include items like Deldrimor Steel Ingots, Spiritwood Planks, and Elonian Leather Squares. They can only be crafted once per day per character and are often consistently profitable if you have the materials to make them.
Intermediate crafting components: Items like insignias, charms, or certain cooking ingredients can be profitable as many players prefer to buy them rather than craft them.
Rare materials: Globs of Ectoplasm and Mystic Coins are frequently needed for legendary crafting and often retain high value.
Gear and loot
Identified gear:
Gray (junk) items: Sell these to a vendor using the "Sell all junk" button.
Blue (fine) and Green (masterwork) items: Often more profitable to salvage for crafting materials and Luck Essences, then sell the materials on the Trading Post.
Yellow (rare) and Orange (exotic) gear (levels 68+): Check the Trading Post price first. If the item's direct sale value is higher than its salvage components (especially Globs of Ectoplasm or valuable runes/sigils), sell it directly. Otherwise, salvage for materials. Consider using a Black Lion Salvage Kit for a 100% chance to extract valuable runes and sigils from exotics.
Unidentified gear: These can be profitable to sell directly or identify and then salvage for materials, particularly if you have a Level 50 character to open them for a better chance at certain material tiers.
Rare unidentified gear offers a chance at Ectoplasm.
Unidentified dyes: Selling these can be more profitable than opening them yourself, as you can use the proceeds to buy multiple common dyes for your collection.
Other items
Items from daily/weekly activities:
Fractal Encryptions: Earned from Fractals, you can sell the boxes directly or use Fractal Keys (bought with Fractal Relics) to open them for loot and then sell the contents.
Stabilizing Matrices: Obtained from Fractals, sell any excess if you don't need them for legendary crafting.
Map-specific keys: Keys like Airship Parts (Verdant Brink) or Exalted Keys (Auric Basin) can be sold or used to open chests that yield valuable materials.
General tips
Use the Trading Post: For most items, especially materials and non-junk gear, the Trading Post offers better prices than vendors, even with the 15% transaction fees.
Check prices:
Use the in-game Trading Post or tools like GW2Efficiency to determine the current value of items and materials before selling or salvaging.
Balance selling with saving: Consider your crafting goals (e.g., legendary weapons or armor). If you plan to craft, saving materials might be beneficial to avoid buying them back later at a higher price.
