So that achievement is from the event prior to actually killing the wurms. On your way to the crimson wurm you will see a large husk called Summoned Husk, make sure you are standing on it before it dies, then stay there for a few seconds to make sure you get the achievement. The best way to make sure you get it whether or not you can see the cloud is to jut stand right on the mob. The cloud will show up on top of where it died.
